Radiology and Ultrasound

Sometimes a physical exam and bloodwork are just the first steps in your pet’s health and wellness journey. River Oak Vet utilizes imaging modalities such as ultrasound and radiology to better diagnose and treat your canine and feline companions.

Digital Imaging

Radiology is commonly referred to as X-rays. Ultrasound, on the other hand, uses high-frequency sound waves to generate images. The primary purpose of these is to diagnose underlying medical issues that may otherwise not be obvious. Some of the more common problems we diagnose using Digital Imaging in cats and dogs include:

  • Gastrointestinal problems and obstructions
  • Foreign bodies
  • Airway problems and disease
  • Heart enlargement
  • Bone breaks and fractures
  • Fluid accumulation in the body cavities
  • Pregnancy
Typically, radiology or ultrasound will be recommended if we suspect an underlying problem but need a closer look for an official diagnosis.

Digital Imaging is completely painless for your pet. In fact, most pets don’t even realize that anything is happening. Another benefit is that radiography and ultrasound are both very accurate and provide us with high-quality images almost instantly, allowing us to make a confident diagnosis when time is of the essence.

In some cases, your pet needs further advanced diagnostics. We partner with boarded internal medicine veterinarians who will help us make sure your pet gets the best treatment available.
